Private 320602, "A" Company, 15th Yeomanry Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died 31/12/1917. Age 32.

 

Born in Felixstowe in 1885, the fifth of eight children of John Warner and his wife Maria nee Nice of Martello Lodge, Golf Road, Felixstowe. In 1911 he had followed in his father's footsteps and was working as an under gardener. His siblings were Elizabeth b. 1878, Henry b. 1879, John b. 1881, Samuel b. 1883, Louisa b. 1888, Ellen b. 1891 and William b. 1895.

 

Arthur enlisted in the Suffolk Regiment which transferred to Egypt in May 1917. He died of his wounds received in action on December 31, 1917, aged 32. He is buried at Cairo War Memorial Cemetery. Arthur is also remembered on St Peter and St Paul WW1 Memorial and Felixstowe Seafront Memorial.

241177, Private William Frederick Warner, age 22
"D" Company, 1st/5th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment
Died 19 April 1917

Private 241177, "D" Company, 1st/5th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Died 19/04/1917. Age 22. Son of John and Maria Warner of Martello Lodge, Golf Road, Felixstowe. 

 

William worked as a groom chauffeur at North Lodge, Cromer before joining the Norfolk Regiment in 1915. The 1st/5th Battalion included recruits from the royal residence at Sandringham. In July 1916 they joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.

He was reported missing in May 1917 and his body was later found and buried.  His death was recorded as occurring on April 19, 1917. William is buried at Gaza War Cemetery and he is remembered on St Peter and St Paul WW1 Memorial and Felixstowe Seafront Memorial.

 

Their brother Henry served with the Royal Navy from 1897 to 1919 and was on board the HMS Aboukir when she was struck by a torpedo and sunk 22 Sep 1914, he was fortunately rescued.
