Private 43290, 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died 27/03/1918. Age 23.

 

Son of John and Eliza Scarff Youngs of Crosby House, Wenhaston, Halesworth. Born at Wenhaston, Suffolk in 1895. One of 13 children & of 8 sons all serving in the war. All the brothers appear to have been keen sportsmen & at least three of them played for Felixstowe or Walton. Brothers Horace John & Harold Edwin living at 1 Cornwall Villas, Cornwall Road, Walton. 

 

The 7th Battalion move to Albert in March 1918 as part of the Spring Offensive where they engaged in heavy fighting on the old Somme battlefields. Sidney was lost presumed dead between the 26th & 27th of March. Buried at Bouzincourt Ridge Cemetery, Albert.
