Robert was born 23rd July 1897 in Pimlico, London.  He had 4 sisters, his father Arthur died in 1910, when he died his mother Margaret was living at 81 Chapel Lane, which is now Maidstone Road.

He served in 8th Battalion The Suffolk Regiment and was killed on the 17th February 1917, he was 19. He is buried at Regina Trench Cemetery, Grandcourt.  He died on the same day and is buried in the same cemetery as another man named on the Felixstowe memorial, Elijah Strange.
