Pilot Officer (Pilot) 40833, 166 Sqdn Royal Air Force. Died 12/03/1940. Age 21.

 

Born in Felixstowe on 20th September 1918, the eldest of three children of Charles Henry Johnson and Alice Maud nee Squirrell.  In 1939 Peter married Dorothy Patricia McMaster of Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire at Fylde, Lancashire. They are found living in Lytham St Anne's shortly after where Peter is already a Pilot Officer. Peter still had maternal family in Felixstowe at this time.

 

On 12 March 1940 Pilot Officer Peter Johnson was Pilot on Whitley III K8960 on a training flight. The aircraft took off from Abingdon at 1145 hrs but stalled while turning at 200 feet. The Whitley fell onto the Officers Mess. All three crew died, Peter from his wounds. He is buried at Halton (St. Michael) Churchyard Plot 2. Row C. Grave 86.
