Born 4th December 1900 in Blundeston, Suffolk, the 4th of six sons of Ambrose Slater and Gertrude nee Miller. On 19th March 1924 Percy married Kitty Emily Broom in Harwich. They had two sons Percy who died in infancy and Ronnie b. 1928, in 1939 Kitty & Ronnie were living at 134 Grange Road, Felixstowe.

 

Percy joined the Royal Navy as a Boy on 7th June 1916 and signed up for 12 years when he reached 18 in 1918. He re-entered on 3rd September 1939. On July 9th, 1942, the British boom defence vessel HMT TUNISIAN (Z.128), built in 1930 by Cook, Welton & Gemmell Ltd. and owned at the time of her loss by British Royal Navy, was sunk by a mine off Harwich 2.5 miles east of Languard Point. Commemorated on Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
