Henry Grimwood

In 1911 lived at 1 Drift Cottages Old Felixstowe with father Henry, mother Mary Ann and two younger brothers.  

 

Henry was born in Felixstowe on December 9, 1891. In the 1911 census he is 19 and working as a farm labourer in Walton. Henry emigrated to Canada in 1913 probably on the ‘Arabic’ which sailed from Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia. 

He worked at the same farm in Woodstock, Ontario as Richard Richardson and they both joined the same regiment on the same day. 

In February 1916, Henry joined the Canadian Infantry- the Western Ontario Regiment- and sailed for France. He was killed in action during an attack on Upton Wood on August 30, 1918, aged 26. He is buried at Upton Wood cemetery and commemorated on his family’s gravestone in St Peter and St Paul churchyard
