Lance Corporal 7995, 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment Died 21/02/1915.

 

Born Edward Gordon Stannard in Kirton on 29 Dec 1886, resident of Trimley he went to Trimley Road school, which is now Trimley St Martin School. The youngest of six children of David Stannard & his wife Celia nee Smith both of whom died before Gordon was 10 years old. Fortunately the family were able to stay together & in 1901 the two youngest children were living with their older brother in Kirton, all three working as warrener's ( rabbit gamekeepers).

Gordon married Evelyn May of Red House Farm in Trimley St Martin on 9 Sep1914, daughter Victoria Gladys born 19 Dec 1914 died 29 July 1915.

 

Enlisted in Ipswich 5 July 1904, went to France 6 Jan 1915 diedq from his wounds in Boulogne Hospital. Buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. Lance Corporal Stannard is also commemorated on the Kirton War Memorial
