Frederick Albert Dawson

Second Lieutenant Frederick Dawson, age 21

Died 07 August 1918

Frederick was born in Kent in 1898.  In 1911 he lived with his family in the Marlborough Boarding House (now The Marlborough Hotel) which was owned by his father William Dawson.

Frederick joined 28 London Regt at the start of the war and was then transferred to 8th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment as a 2nd Lt. In Oct 1917 he was awarded the Military Cross, his citation can be seen below.  He died on 7th August 1918, age 21, in the last few months of the war during the final advance to victory across the Somme.  He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.
