Lance Corporal 14301159 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry. Died 09/06/1944. Aged 30.

 

Born 26th May 1914 in Felixstowe, third of four children of Frank Arthur Minns and Ada Frances nee Tebenham.  In 1937 Frank married Eleanor Winifred Bush. In 1939 they were living at 30 St Georges Road, Felixstowe with Frank working as a carpenter & joiner, along with being part time in the auxiliary fire service 

 

On the 5th June 1944 six Horsa Gliders took off from RAF Tarrant Rushton in Dorset, they were bound for the Bénouville Bridge over the Orne River. Frank was on Glider 91 which landed close to their target. With the target taken, later to be renamed Pegasus Bridge, this allowed for the full assault of "The Longest Day" to take place. Frank was killed in action three days later and is buried at Herouvillette New Communal Cemetery  Grave 11.
