Driver 14516504, 3rd Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals. Died 11/01/1946. Age 23.

 

Born in Haverhill in 1922, the eldest of three children of Ernest William Melton and Lilian May nee Sizer. The family were living at 29 Cornwall Road, Walton in 1939 with Ernest senior working as a Butcher's Roundsman. In 1943 he married Sheila Doreen Rooksby of Rushden, Northamptonshire.

 

The 3rd Division were stationed in British Palestine when Ernest died as the result of an accident on 11th January 1946. He is buried at Khayat Beach Cemetery.
