Son of Thomas Arthur Strong and Charlotte nee Strong. Born in Warminster, Surrey his family moved to Felixstowe with his three older sisters some time before 1901.

In 1911 Charles was living with his parents at Hazerleigh, Cobbold Road working as a bricklayer with the Royal Engineers at Landguard. By the time he enlisted in 1915 the family were living at "Gaslyn", Victoria Street. After enlistment in the Army Service Corps, he qualified as a driver of horse transport in 1917. He appears to have trained and served at the ASC depot in Belton Park, Lincolnshire where he remained for the term of his service. His death from tuberculosis of the ankle was recorded on February 12, 1918 aged 31 at Grantham.

Charles is buried in St Peter and St Paul graveyard and he is remembered on Felixstowe Seafront Memorial. His Commonwealth War Graves record gives his parents address as 2 Queens Road, Felixstowe.
