Charles Kent was born in Harleston in 1886. He moved to Felixstowe with his family in the 1890's. His father John was a Bricklayer and his mother Emma was a housewife. He had an older sister and brother and 2 younger sisters. When he was 15 he worked as an apprentice carpenter with his older brother John. He married Emily Jane Mower in 1908 and in 1911 he and his wife lived at 8 Felix Road in Felixstowe.

During the war he served in the Royal Garrison Artillery as a Wheeler and Gunner in 445th Siege Battery. He was killed on September 17th 1918 whilst operating heavy artillery in Greece, he was 32. He is buried in Karasouli Military Cemetery, Greece and commemorated on St Peter and St Paul WW1 Memorial and Felixstowe Seafront Memorial.
