Arthur was born in Walton in 1885.  He worked as a farm labourer in 1911 and lived in Falkenham with his father John, who was a farmer, and Mother Eliza. He was an only child.

He served in 2nd Battalion The Suffolk Regiment, he died aged 33 close to Arras on 28 March 1918 during the German counter-attack to the Arras Offensive.  He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial and the Falkenham War Memorial.
