Born 21 July 1886 in Trimley St Martin, one of nine children of James Oliver Moyes and Annie nee Alexander. In 1912 Alfred married Annie May Branton and they went on to have two sons, one of whom sadly died in infancy. In 1939 the family were living at 38 Maidstone Road, Walton.
Alfred joined the Royal Navy on 25th October 1904 for a 12 year period, as this ended mid war he agreed to complete but ended up carrying on until 12 July 1922. Shortly after the outbreak of WW2 Alfred re-joined the Navy for a further 6 years but less than two months later on 14th October 1939 he was invalided out with Chronic Bronchitis, he passed away 29th November. Petty Officer Moyes’ death is recorded at Deben. Buried at Felixstowe New Cemetery. HMS Pembroke is the shore establishment at Chatham.
