Alexander Hugh Sinclair Joyce

Second Lieutenant Alexander Joyce, age 27
12th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment
Died 20 August 1918

Alexander was the son of Edward and Mary Joyce of 9 Greenhell Cresent, Harrow.  He married Bessie Alice Joyce (nee Rush on 27 December 1917 and they lived at 176 High Road Felixstowe.

 

Alexander Joyce enlisted in the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 16 October 1905, aged 15.  During the war he served in the Bedfordshire Regt and the Norfolk Regt, he was commissioned to 2nd Lieutenant on 17 December 1917, 10 days before his wedding.  He was awarded the Military Medal whilst in the Norfolk Regt, how he received this is still unclear, however it would have been before he was commissioned as officers received the Military Cross.  He died of his wounds on 20th August 1918, age 27, and is buried at Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery
